I may look like a fool, but I feel fine.

!!!??? Happy Festivus for the Rest of Us ???!!!

My parents are not big fans of Christmas because they are hardcore Bible thumpers. [They do not literally pound their fists on the Bible; that would sacrilege. Instead, they pound me and brother's heads... ouch!]

It seems odd though, to be SOOOO Christian that they won't celebrate the "birth of Christ".

Their logic is thus:
  1. The Bible does not focus on the date of his birth [or anyone else's for that matter] and there are other things that should be upheld in precedence to this [ie. His death and resurrection].
  2. Dec 25 was actually focused on "pagan" ritual and "sun worship", therefore has been built on a foundation of idolatry. [Not the American Idol kind, but similar!]
  3. It was "created" by Catholics. [As far as my parents are concerned, enough said.]

There is probably more to it than that, but that is what I have gathered. That and the fact that my mom is not someone to get carried away with decorating or baking [as she does neither].

Perhaps this year will be different from past years though.
It will be the first time in over a decade that my entire family [there aren't very many of us, papa, mama, me and my lil' brother...] will actually be able to hang out together without working 16 hour days through the entire holiday break.

The first sign that things might change:
My mom put up a decoration.
A Frosty Snowman windchime in front of the house.

Maybe we will have a tree this year... into the storage with you Festivus Pole!
I will miss the annual fist fight though... may Festivus never end!!!

Of course, if my mom breaks out that Turkey Roaster (a gift from a Christmas in years past) then our family maybe spending quality time together in the Emergency Room... *yikes
